Today I continued to focus on the golf outing, in particular working on the silent auction. I developed a letter to hand out to the local businesses in Oberlin for a donation request. We decided to offer an "Oberlin Experience" basket for the auction. We asked each business to donate a gift card of $10 or more. There were a few businesses that donated a gift card right on the spot, while others said they would let us know. I am hoping that a majority of them will donate a gift card in order to garner more interest in the silent auction.
Today I got back to focusing on the golf outing. I received donations from the Akron Rubberducks, Lake County Captions, Columbus Crew, and Lake Erie Crushers. These tickets will be placed in the silent auction to raise funds for the athletic department. There are still some professional teams that I am waiting to hear back from on whether they have accepted or denied the request. I am hoping to get as many donations as possible and as many sponsorship's as possible.
Today we presented our final Facilities Master Plan to my mentor and the head athletic director. We went through the step by step needs of each facility and recommendations for improvement. Overall the presentation went well and it was well received by Creg and Natalie. They were very appreciative that we put as much work as we did into our project. They also conveyed that this document would help them in the future because they now have a working document to make improvements to their facilities.
I enjoyed working on this project through out the semester. It gave me the opportunity to understand what goes into developing athletic facilities and the need to improve facilities. Today I spent most of the day putting the finishing touches on the facilities master plan that I have been working on most of the semester. We read over it several times making sure that everything was as close to perfect as possible. We will be presenting to the two head athletic directors tomorrow afternoon. The final project looks really nice and I put the final copies into a presentation folder for each person to have their own copy.
Other than working on the facilities plan, I also worked on the golf outing. I sent out emails to several different minor league teams in the area to request ticket donations for the silent auction. I am hoping to hear from them in the next few days to see whether they accepted or not. Today I made it over the 200 contact hour mark that is required for completion of this course. I am extremely happy that I was able to finish my hours with over a week left to go in the semester. I plan on working past the 200 hour mark and past the end of the semester.
During the day I focused on finishing the final copy of the facilities master plan. We went through the document and edited any mistakes. We have all of the pictures in the correct spots and have only a few minor details to fix before our presentation. Most of my time today was spent working on the final copy of the facilities master plan. We have all of the pictures we need to complete the document as well as all of the information we need. It will take some time to get everything perfect and to the standard that it needs to be for presentation. Our presentation is next Wednesday and we will be making edits to the document until we present.
During the day I also went to the store to pick up some snack food for a coaches meeting. I helped set up the conference room for a head coaches only meeting that I was not allowed to attend. Even though it seemed like a minor thing to do, my mentor explained to me that something as small as providing food and drinks at a meeting is important. Providing food and drinks for a meeting makes it seem more organized and professional. Today we had to track down the weight room manager to get his opinion on what needs to be upgraded in the workout facility. He is the last coach/manager that we needed to talk to in order to finish the master plan. He gave us some great insight into what needs to be done to give the weight room a face lift. We also had to get a few more pictures to add to our document.
I secured another sponsorship for the golf outing today. At this point, I am calling everyone I know that has some kind of business and asking for their help. I have few good leads on potential sponsors and I will be contacting them in the next few days. Today I continued to work on the facilities master plan project that I have been working on through out the semester. I started putting together a list of improvements from my observations as well as some of the suggestions the coaches had. The document is coming together nicely and I should have it done by the end of the week or the beginning of next week.
I also continued my search for sponsors for the golf outing. I was able to secure another sponsor today which is encouraging. I am still well short of my goal and I am running out of time. I am hoping that some of the information I left for store managers will end up paying off. Today I got back to working on the facilities master plan. The project is coming along nicely and I have been adding the suggestions made by the coaches to the project. The information the coaches are providing us with are excellent. They have a better understanding of what they need in order to improve the facilities that they play and practice on every day. Many of the suggestions that we thought of while touring the facilities matched with what the coaches suggested. Many of the coaches also had more suggestions that we would never have thought of because they had to do with drainage issues. When we toured the facilities it was usually on a nice day which did not give us an opportunity to observe the field during poor weather. We have been adding in the recommendations given to us by the coaches and the document is starting to grow. I am hoping to have this done at the beginning of next week so we can put the final touches on the document before our presentation on April 13th.
Today my main focus was getting in contact with businesses that would be willing to sponsor the golf outing. After several failures, I was able to get another sponsor for the event. I have been reaching out to almost every business in the town of Oberlin for sponsorships and have been largely unsuccessful in acquiring sponsors. I am going to start looking outside the city for other options and possible sponsors. This project has turned out to be much more difficult than I anticipated in the beginning. Hopefully my luck will turn in the next week or two because I am running out of time to secure sponsorships.
